Translator for German into English

(located in Frankfurt or Cologne, full or part-time)

Working in our translation services team, you will provide highest-quality language and translation services to our clients and lawyers. You will contribute to all areas of our legal practice in Germany, including EU and German competition law, litigation and arbitration, M&A and corporate, capital markets, banking and finance, re-structuring and insolvency as well as tax. Occasionally you will also support other Cleary Gottlieb offices and their practice areas.

Your duties will include:

  • Translating complex documents from German into English
  • Occasional support in translating from English into German
  • Language reviews and proofreading of English texts
  • Terminology work, including in our terminology database
  • Coordination of translation projects with lawyers and within the translation services team

Because of the nature of the work and of our practice, the position requires native speaker level English and excellent German skills. Successful candidates must possess a college or university degree as a translator or in a related field and at least 5 years of professional experience as a translator. Specialization in legal, business or financial translations, as well as experience with translation software/tools (SDL Trados) would be ideal. Excellent MS Office-skills are a must.
